As the budget wars continue, we seem to talk about getting out of Afghanistan, but even while we're there, the money wasted is atrocious.
I have a friend who owns a construction company. He went to Afghanistan for several years to do rebuilding work. On a trip home, he explained to me how the process works. There is going to be a new school built. The US government pays for the supplies and the expenses, which include not just salaries, travel, and normal expenses, but also bribe money to get the equipment to the location, and to pay off the locals. The school gets built, and then the locals blow it up. This is good for them because they get bribes a second time. And maybe a third.
Remember that when you call your reps and Senators today. And yes, call again - the switchboards and web sites are melting down, but once they're up - call again.
